Out of hundreds of marijuana seeds companies you could buy from, one is in a class by itself, soaring high above all others.

When you buy seeds only from this company you grow rare genetics no other company has or could have.

Yes, it’s a startling fact that if you stopped buying seeds from other breeders and got your seeds only from Humboldt Seed Company, your growing experience and your highs are absolutely guaranteed far superior to what they are now. Here’s why we know that’s true…

Growing Marijuana Perfectly is a team of professional growers who’ve been growing marijuana since the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. We’ve been part of the entire evolution of the marijuana seeds industry.

Sixty years ago, the only cannabis seeds you could get were from landrace or crudely manipulated cultivars. There wasn’t scientific cannabis breeding to improve potency, harvest weight, or plant consistency. Nobody even understood yet that blocking male pollen from reaching female flowers produced more potent buds.

Seeds available back then produced buds averaging 2-8% THC, and were mostly from Central & South America, Asia, Africa, India, the Caribbean. Many were little better than hemp seeds.

Colombian, Mexican, Thai, Afghani, Indian, South African, and Jamaican were the main strain types. Quality and consistency was hit or miss, because professional breeding hadn’t been done.

By the mid-1970s, a few cannabis entrepreneurs had learned to get rid of males so female flowers grew unpollinated. Others were gathering crosses of wild or primitively cultivated cannabis. Eventually, early grow ops using seeds from all over the world allowed growers to, for example, cross genetics from Mexico with genetics from Vietnam or Thailand–combinations that could not have happened naturally.

The worldwide marijuana seeds retail market started in the mid-1980s, when famous Australian Neville opened the first marijuana seeds retail operation, based in The Netherlands.

Neville and early cannabis aficianados like “Sam the Skunkman” had procured, stabilized or created “foundational” strains such as Skunk, Haze, Colombian, Northern Lights, and Orange.

Neville took the huge legal risk of selling them mail order via ads in High Times, enabling the rapid dissemination of early strains. Sadly, Neville was arrested for selling marijuana seeds, after international police action against him. But other marijuana entrepreneurs stepped in to make money from marijuana seeds.

By the early 2000s, about two dozen established Netherlands-based marijuana seeds companies dominated the worldwide market. These included Sensi Seeds, Dutch Passion, Serious Seeds, Grey Area, Barney’s, Green House Seeds, Bluebird, and a few others. Many Dutch seed companies were affiliated with the country’s famous cannabis “coffee shops.”

About two dozen established strains dominated the seeds market, with many of them being simple crosses with others. Haze, Skunk, and other foundational strains were almost always embedded in the genetic backstory of so-called newer strains.

Growers made pilgrimages to Holland to buy seeds, smuggling or mailing them back home, or ordered them by mail, sometimes ending up in prison for it.

A domestic marijuana seeds industry slowly developed in North America after Dennis Peron convinced voters to approve California medical marijuana home grow legalization in 1996. Peron’s legalization allowed a few growers to start the North American marijuana seeds retail industry, even though it was black-market clandestine.

And after other American states, and later Canada, legalized medical marijuana growing, more North Americans started breeding and selling cannabis strains. A few consistent, high-THC strains were developed by professional breeders.

Amateurs grew those strains, making crosses and copies with fancy new names and built-in problems such as lack of phenotype consistency, and hermie traits. Those defective, derivative strains soon flooded the marketplace, but selective breeding did result in increased THC percentages, heavier harvests, and feminized seeds.

Fast forward to 2024. There are hundreds if not thousands of marijuana seeds companies. We’ve tested seeds from about 85% of companies selling online or at trade fairs, and some that only sell through secret clubs or word of mouth.

Marketing hype, often involving dishonest online advertising and fake fanboy accounts in cultivation forums, lead growers to spend a lot of money for mediocre copycat strains and unreliable seeds.

A few marijuana seeds breeders offer acceptable but not amazing marijuana strains. Most are producing trash, or the same old same old. A seed company sells 25 strains–only one or two strains are so potent and tasty that they’re worth growing. They sell expensive seeds with too-low germination rates. Even if seeds produce healthy plants and fat buds, the strain’s look, scent, and high isn’t what the seller advertised it to be.

One of the exceptions to the mediocrity was the late, legendary Subcool. He pioneered YouTube marijuana seeds marketing, and although he outsourced most of his breeding projects, he did his best to make sure you got new tastes, scents, and highs, that his seeds would germinate reliably and grow out to be what his marketing catalogue described. Unfortunately, Subcool died an untimely death, and people claiming to sell his strains today are not legit.

Growers are especially let down by crappy seeds produced by greedy “pollen chuckers” based in Spain and Eastern Europe. They’re absolute geniuses at online marketing, including fake-account, dishonest, participation in cultivation forums. But they’re terrible at breeding innovative, mind-blowing marijuana.

How can seed scammers make so much money? It’s because many growers, especially new growers, don’t really know the difference between incredible cannabis, mediocre cannabis, and schwag.

About seven years ago after testing hundreds of strains, we became bored with growing strains we loved but were tired of—and worse yet, the alleged “fire” new strains were predictable, stale. Sure, you’d get frosty, potent buds that would satisfy most novice consumers, but the highs were off, like bad-trip weed, and a batch of 20 seeds would give you five or more phenos, and some hermies.

Also, many of these new “award-winning strains” seemed like mite magnets or gray mold motels!

But then a miracle happened through ironic fate —we were trying to contact customer service after sending a lot of money to what we later discovered was a gang of profit-driven opportunists call themselves Humboldt Seed Organization even though they are not based anywhere near Humboldt County, but got the email address instead of a then-obscure marijuana seeds company called Humboldt Seed Company (HSC).

It was the best email address mistake we ever made!

We got back an immediate response from HSC co-founder Nat Pennington, explaining he’d been collecting proprietary unicorn marijuana genetics and making strains in Humboldt County, North America’s prime region for connoisseur marijuana breeding and guerrilla growing, since 1999.

By then, we were so skeptical of seeds sellers that we said, oh yeah sure, you are soooo special, ha ha.

Nat responded by saying his seeds prove his claims.  He guaranteed when we grew them, we’d know he was telling the truth.

We got 23 of his early strains, some feminized, some regs, all photoperiod. Of the 23 strains, 19 were crushingly fire, with 100% germination rate, low hermie rate, offering tastes, colors, scents, visuals, and highs like nothing we’d ever seen.

As we tested Humboldt Seed Company strains, we asked experts about Nat and his company. We were already impressed by his willingness to have his strains tested by spoiled, demanding, dab-rigging growers who were bored with everything we’d tried in years.

We divided the strains between grow ops, and started growing. Pretty soon, we were excitedly contacting each other about the incredible plants produced from totally new, super-fire genetics Pennington was providing in his stable, high-performing seed strains.

As we got to know the man, it was easy to see Pennington is the ideal role model for what a marijuana seeds breeder and businessperson should be. Let me explain…

First of all, he is not a greedhead. He’s dedicated to helping the world, which is why along with creating the world’s best marijuana strains, he’s also a major, acclaimed conservationist trying to protect native salmon and Northern California wilderness from extinction.

Pennington is sincerely, passionately ethical and visionary in his business dealings. His daughter Halle is an integral part of Humboldt Seed Company, the first female with a massively prominent, important role in creating, making, and marketing unicorn marijuana strains.

His customer service team is run by very kind, honest women like “Hannah,” who are impeccably polite, customer-focused, and professional.

Another thing Pennington has that few entrepreneurs have—built-in honesty. Maybe it comes from taking on freezing rivers in NorCal’s Emerald Triangle, crossing a raging flow of water to get to a remote, hidden grower who has a cache of unicorn genetics never before used in the cannabis seeds market.

Maybe it comes from standing with frozen feet in that same river in a different season, with his wildlife conservation team, trying to save a threatened salmon species.

There’s something very centered and resolute about Pennington, like the tens of thousands of plants he examines during each year’s “phenotype hunt” to get the most superb new genetics possible.

When we test seeds from other seed companies (and the same thing happens when we test grow gear), other companies except Serious Seeds and Humboldt Seed Company demand we hide negative things about their strains and only say nice things.

We refuse to do that, so we’ve received threats of being snitched on or physically attacked because we tell the harsh truth about the garbage products most growers buy.

In contrast, when we found a few Humboldt Seed Company strains with minor hermie traits, Pennington said he appreciates our honesty and did not even hint at trying to get us to censor our articles to omit hermie warnings.

Other seed companies with much more persistent hermie traits in their seeds dishonestly blame the grower and grow op conditions for hermie traits. But Humboldt Seed Company is one of the kindest, most transparent, most customer-centered companies anywhere.

Their strain descriptions are rock solid accurate–when they say it’s going to take 55 days in bloom phaser indoors, smells like oranges, and has 35% THC, that’s exactly what you get.

Look, we ain’t gettin’ paid to say all these nice things. Our only goal is sharing our passion for growing superstar strains. When you’re a grower who lives for cannabis, you know what it means to have only the top of the best of the best.

And there really is no other way to say it: Humboldt Seed Company is all alone at the top of the cannabis seeds biz.

They have superior genetics and strains nobody else has or ever will have, and created at least two broad new types of marijuana that would likely not have existed without them.

One type is high-yielding, easy to grow, ultra-high potency autoflowering strains. We were intrigued when autoflowering marijuana first came on the market years ago, but after testing the “top award-winning autoflower strains” we gave up because they’re low potency, hard to grow, can’t be bred with.

And do the math—you use more electricity growing most autoflowering strains than you use growing most photoperiod strains that give you heavier harvests and way higher potency.

Pennington decided to do autoflowering the right way, vowing to make autoflowering strains equal to or better than photoperiod strains, and he’s succeeded in making autoflowering strains that are 1000% better than the rest of the autoflowering world.

Take a look at his new Durban Poison autoflowering. Authentic, energizing Durban Poison is hard to get even in a legit photoperiod seed strain, but Pennington created a 100-day autoflower Durban Poison with THC percentages near 35%.

Humboldt Seed Company’s latest major breakthrough is creation of the first professional triploid cannabis seeds. Read about them here. This is a more important new type of marijuana seeds than autoflowering, because triploids have zero hermie traits, are stronger, better-producing, more potent, with a broader range of cannabinoids than regular (diploid) photoperiod or autoflowering marijuana.

Others tried to create reliable triploid strains in the past couple of decades, but only Humboldt Seed Company has successfully done it—and they’ve done it first.

You see triploid superiority in the gorgeous triploid OG photo at the top of this article. Experienced OG Kush growers’ eyes will pop out, because this Kush bud is not popcorn like most diploid Kush strains–it’s thick, frosty, filled-in, like pure Indica.

The wonderful truth is no matter what you want from your marijuana growing and consuming experience, you get it all from Humboldt Seed Company.

So now you don’t have to spend hours on Grow Diaries, grow forums, or other marketing sites, trying to figure out the best strains to grow.

When you look at Humboldt Seed Company’s 2024 catalogue, you see if you only bought from HSC for the rest of your growing career, you never run out of new, amazing strains to grow. It’s an accurate, no-hype catalogue. The company’s seed ordering website is bulletproof, and they’re legally allowed to ship seeds to all but a handful of conservative states that won’t allow it.

We wish we could find other companies as fantastic as HSC. We’re always contacting seed sellers we haven’t heard of, asking for verification that they’re professional breeders with fire strains worth growing. You’ll see on this site that we’ve highlighted the few legit companies we’ve found.

We’re growers just like you, but as a team we’ve tested hundreds of strains and seed brands and one thing has become obvious: Humboldt Seed Company is the crowning glory of the marijuana seeds world, the absolute gold standard—nobody else can or will ever catch up.
